DCR-TRV18 includes a 1/4″ 680,000 pixel CCD (horizontal resolution of up to 500 lines) coupled with superb Carl Zeiss lens. Easy to use cam with great sound and picture. And good price. The TRV17 is similar to the TRV15, with the addition of Memory Stick (4MB) removable memory for recording digital still images. You can save pictures to the memory stick for later transfer to your computer through the USB port. You can also capture 30 seconds of MPEG video onto the memory stick. If you want to transfer video for any practical purpose, you will have to do it using the FireWire cable (usually not availbale in the pack). (more…)

The 1/4.7″ CCD Imager (1.0 Mega Pixels Gross) uses 690,000 effective pixels to produce impressive clarity in digital videos. For still images, the CCD uses all one million pixels to produce decent digital photos. Sony’s Advanced HAD CCD technology combined with f1.8, 3.7-37mm Carl Zeiss 10x optical lens, provides excellent video performance with 520 lines of horizontal resolution. Not outstanding camcorder but digital and only for $470 or so. Sony DCR-TRV350 replaces TRV250 model and is similar to TRV340. The Digital-8 format records digital video and audio on a standard 8mm or Hi-8 tape with much better picture quality than the analog 8mm or Hi-8 format. Contrary to TRV250, with DCR-TRV350 you can playback an existing library of 8mm and Hi8 analog recorded videotapes. (more…)
