What Style To Choose
Now that you’ve chosen a type and a pickup pattern for your microphone, you’ll need to choose a style. Here are a handful of the most common types:
- Handheld microphone.
- Shotgun (the type you find on the end of long pole, commonly used in TV and movie production work).
- Lapel (small microphone that fits onto a lapel).
- Boundary or Pressure Zone (normally mounted on a flat surface with an omni-directional pickup. Great for conferences or for flat tables).
- Parabolic (Used for long distance pickup, e.g. sporting events. Looks like a handheld satellite dish).
